If you're serious about wine, you should be spending this year's Queen's Birthday weekend in Glenrowan, North East Victoria. Six wineries in the region play host to a weekend of 'Trails, Tastings & Tales' along Ned Kelly's old stomping ground. In fact, he built fences in one of the vineyards and held his last meeting with his sympathisers in another, making it one of Australia's oldest and most historic wine regions.
The best part about the compact Glenrowan wine region is that when you visit the wineries you'll taste the full bodied reds, whites and fortifieds with the winemakers and vignerons themselves. And this year, they're taking to the kitchen to prepare foods inspired by the vine.
"Our family-friendly festival is smaller than the other ones taking place in the North East region during the Queen's Birthday weekend and our visitors like that."
"People can visit all of us in one day, go in the draw to win a luxurious weekend break and cases of our best wine, and then take in all the other great activities the North East offers for the rest of the weekend." Glenrowan Vignerons' Winemakers' Weekend 3rd and 4th October 2009
Showcasing all that's fantastic about the Glenrowan Wine region, with a weekend full of special events and highlighted by the sumptuous Winemakers Dinner on Saturday 4 October - "Slow Food from the Producer's Paddock." RSVPs required
